Servicing your ATEQ instrument: getting a spare instrument for calibrations and repairs

Your ATEQ Instrument needs REPAIR or CALIBRATION and you want an instrument to operate your line in the meantime?
Let's make sure what is the right solution for you

Leased instrument:
First you need to be aware that this service is available only when we have a similar used instrument on the shelf available . So availability needs to be checked first by calling our central service department in Michigan (tel: 734 4519449). This service from Michigan is ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE USA. For other countries, please contact the local ATEQ subsidiary for availability and conditions.
Most of the available instruments for loans are older generation instruments that were demonstrators, and not in use anymore for obscolescence, or obsolescent instruments that were traded in for the purchase of the latest model and refurbished by ATEQ.
Please be aware that there is also the possibility of a high speed repair/calibration, at an extra cost, which can be faster than the time necessary to modify an instrument we have on shelf, and the time it would take you to swap it on the line with yours. So if your production line is stopped and you don't have any spare instrument, the fastest method to get it back up and running is probably not to ask for a leased instrument.

The leased instrument system can be efficient if you have scheduled preventative maintenance or calibrations/adjustments. It can also be useful if you know you will need an instrument for just a month. The minimum lease time is a month. The cost of a leased instrument varies depending on how much work we have to do on an existing instrument to lease it but is about US$1000 per month.used instruments available for lease

Why not getting a spare instrument instead?
If you know that you are going to need a leased instrument regularly like once a year or more, it might be worth buying the very same instrument you would get on lease as a used instrument, that you would keep as a spare in your plant. Link to used instruments page.
If your instrument is of the latest generation, it is very unlikely that we would have a used instrument available for lease or sale as used. But if this model is manufactured in Michigan, you have the possibility to buy a spare instrument made overnight, provided we have in file all the required information to build it, and on the shelf the necessary parts. The instruments currently manufactured in the USA are industrial air leak testers and flow testers, differential pressure decay, mass flow, gauge pressure decay testers, laminar flow meters. The current ranges are called Premier, Legacy and Solo.
If you have an ATEQ instrument that was purchased recently from another continent, there might be a compatible model made in the USA.

How do I know if it is worth buying a spare instrument?
To know if it is worth for you to keep a spare instrument you need to know your cost for a production line stop per day, multiply it by three which is the minimum number of days per year
that your instrument would be off service (one yearly calibration with two overnight shipments), and multiply that by the number of years you think you will use the instrument.
If your instrument is older or already has a few million cycles on it, you might want to increase the number of days per year that the instrument will not be in working condition since, unfortunately, instruments are like cars: the older they get and the more mileage, the more maintenance they will need.
For example if it costs you $1000 a day to stop your production line, and you intend to use the instrument for 4 years, the minimum money saved would be: 1000x3x4=$12000.
So if buying a spare costs you US$6000, that's obviously a good investment.
Chances are that a production line stop would cost more like $1000 per hour or per minute in your plant. In that case you don't even need to calculate, you will have more than a full return on your investment in less than a year.
